ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation

Required. A certified marijuana testing laboratory (CMTL) must hold a separate ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation for each testing facility from an ILAC-recognized body. It must also meet the AOAC ALACC guidelines by its next renewal (64-4.301 F.A.C., effective May 28, 2026).

• Rules: 64-4.212 F.A.C. (treatment center compliance testing) and the lab rules 64-4.300 to 64-4.315, effective May 28, 2026. Rule 64-4.308 sets the panel and limits. Statute: s. 381.988, F.S.
• Panel: THC and CBD potency, cannabinoid profile (including delta-8 THC, THCA, CBG, CBGA, CBN and CBC), microbes, mycotoxins, residual solvents, heavy metals, agricultural agents (pesticides), moisture, water activity, and filth and foreign material.
• Microbes: STEC, Salmonella, Aspergillus niger, fumigatus, flavus and terreus, and Listeria monocytogenes (flower and edibles) must be absent; total yeast and mold under 100,000 CFU/g; stricter limits for non-oral transmucosal products.
• Mycotoxins: aflatoxins B1, B2, G1 and G2 (each and in total under 20 ppb) and ochratoxin A under 20 ppb.
• Heavy metals: lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, nickel and tin, with separate limits for inhaled and non-inhaled products.
• Flower moisture must be below 15.0%. Water activity: at most 0.65 Aw for flower and 0.85 Aw for derivative products and edibles. Filth and foreign material: at most 1% by weight or 10% of the sample area.
• Multi-serving edibles also get homogeneity testing. A total contaminant load limit applies (5 ppm for inhaled products, 30 ppm for others).
• Labs may not be owned or controlled by a medical marijuana treatment center (s. 381.988, F.S.).
